What are the origins of
palmistry?
Palmistry is believed to have
originated in India over 3000 years ago. It is thought to have then spread to
the Middle East through Arabian traders, and to Eastern Europe by way of the
gifted Romany gypsies, before eventually reaching the West. It may also have
spread eastward to become the basis for Chinese palmistry, which has slightly
different interpretations.
What is Cheiromancy?
Cheiromancy, sometimes called
Chiromancy, is another name for palmistry. It is believed that palmistry was
first practised in ancient India, and later spread to other civilisations. It
is one of the oldest methods of divination. Read more in the article
What is Cheiromancy?
How is it that palmistry can
tell us about ourselves and our future?
The palms are one of the areas
of the body with a high concentration of nerve endings, so it has a strong
connection with the brain. It is only logical to assume that our brains are
able to influence those nerve endings, visible as the palm lines. The brain is
not only a physical organ but also the source of a strong electromagnetic
field around the body, which shifts and changes according to our moods and
attitudes. Because certain attitudes will lead to
certain reactions, it is possible to predict the future outcome of an area of
life for a particular person.
Can one foretell
the future with Palmistry?
It is possible only in the sense
that our future is shaped by who and what we are. A certain character and
attitude will create certain types of future events. A different character
will create a different set of future events. This is an important point to
remember. It is not possible to foretell exactly the events that will actually
happen, as palm reading is not 'seeing' the future. Moreover, changes in a
person's outlook and attitudes will modify the events happening in the future.
Is palmistry a pagan or heathen
practice?
To believe in anything without
giving due credit to our Creator can be construed as a pagan or heathen
practice. Palmistry does not advocate that it be followed like a religion, nor
does it pretend to replace God's power and grace. Each of us still holds in
our own hands the potential to change our destiny. Some of us will need God's
help, and others of us have been blessed by God with enough strength of
character to effect those changes by ourselves. We need to keep things in
perspective and not blindly follow others' judgement of ourselves or
others' view of the world we live in. Even within
traditional religions, we need to use our will to make our choices.
Is everything that a palm
reader says absolutely true?
What a palm reader sees in
someone's hands today shows the type of life that is most likely to unfold for
that person, if he/she retains the character that he/she has today. If the
outlook and attitudes of that person changes, the palm lines will also change,
and therefore a different life will unfold. A palm reader does not actually
'see' a person's future. The reader only reads the likely outcome of the
future based on the character and tendencies shown in the hands.

How can I know if a palm reader
is genuine and not making things up?
A palm reader should be able to
accurately read some events of a person's past, and this is a form of
verification of the reader's training. One trick of a not-so-genuine reader is
to take cues from the subject's facial expressions or body language. If a
reader seems to depend exclusively on these signals, that may indicate that
that reader may not have sufficient knowledge to give pure interpretations of
the palm lines. That is not to say that such readers are frauds, as some
readers are able to use their psychic powers to correctly interpret the lines.
But this is a factor to consider when assessing palm readers.
Which type
of palmistry reading do you do?
The basis of
the palmistry readings we do is Cheiromancy, or 'Western' palmistry, which in
turn is largely derived from Hindu or Vedic palmistry as found in India. There
are also other aspects of palmistry which are added to the readings, which are
not found in traditional palmistry, but through observation and verification,
and corroboration by clients, have been found pertinent and helpful.
How are the readings conducted?
After the appointment is made
for a full reading, the reader will meet with the client and will start by
asking which hand is the strong hand. The reader then proceeds to read the
palm lines of both hands, outlining strengths and weaknesses, and going
through the different areas of life. Questions may be asked at any time during
the reading.
What are the fees for palm
readings?
The fees for a full reading done
in private is US$35.00 or SG$50.00 per reading. From time to time, there will
be promotions or special offers for private consultations. For events such as
company functions and parties, the fees are on a per hour basis: US$95.00 or
SG$150.00 for the 1st hour, and US$65.00 or SG$100.00 per hour thereafter.
Please call to enquire regarding schedule.
How long does a reading take?
A single full reading takes
anywhere from 45 to 60 minutes, at times a little longer. Readings at events
are of much shorter durations of 3 to 5 minutes, so as to accommodate as many
attendees as possible.
How often should I have my
palms read?
For some, the palm lines can
change in as little as 3 months, as they may be sensitive persons who are
easily subject to the energies within and around themselves. For others, the
lines hardly change over long periods of time as they have a more stable and
practical mentality. A general frequency would be about every 1 to 2 years.
Can the palm lines change?
Most certainly, yes. They change
all the time, but we are not aware of the changes as they are very gradual and
change more in the quality of the lines and, to a lesser extent, in the
quantity. In any case, most of us do not regularly check our hands for
changes. Some people's lines change more frequently than others. See
next question.

Can one change future events
indicated by the palm lines?
Yes, it is indeed possible to do
so. What is shown by the palm lines today is due to who and
what we are, and will indicate the outcome of
the life if we do not make any changes to our outlook and attitudes. The same
logic says that it should be possible to do things the other way round, i.e.
change our outlook and attitude, which will in turn change our palm lines,
which then reflects a different future outcome.
How does one change one's
destiny?
This is where our WILL comes in.
To effect a change in our lives, we need to use our willpower to make a
conscious effort to make a certain change. There has to be a deliberate
intention to achieve the desired objective. This puts us in charge of our
destiny and gives us the power to go any way we want. However, it has been my
observation that many people are too weak to make
any changes and will continue to drift along the same path that their outlook
has decided for them.
How can I develop my willpower?
The key is to understand
yourself first, to know what you want, where you want to go, how you are going
to get there, and who you want to be. Examine your life and determine your
goals. Then, focus on your goals and start actively working toward them.
Periodically review your life to see if you are still on track. It is
important to avoid getting distracted by others' negativity, or their own
motives, or even their good intentions for you. Believe in yourself. Have
faith that you will achieve what you want. Doing all these things will build
up your willpower. Ultimately, you are the master of your destiny, and only
you can answer for any good or bad deeds you have performed in your life.
Which is the hand that should
be read?
Both hands are read. The strong
hand, which is the right hand for most but not all people, represents what we
make of our lives and what we show to the world. The weak hand, usually the
left hand, is what we are born with, and what we instinctively feel. Another
way to see it is that the strong hand is what is exposed, whereas the weak
hand is what is hidden.

I write with my right hand but
eat with my left. Which should be read?
In cases such as this, the
reader will try to find out which may be the naturally stronger of the two
hands. The hand with the acquired dexterity would be taken as the weak hand.
Sometimes, even the owner of such hands does not know which may be the
naturally strong hand. Then, the palm lines are compared and the palm with the
lines clearly deeper and stronger will be taken as the strong hand.
Can I know only the good things
that will happen, and not the bad?
Yes, of course. But that would
not be utilising palmistry in the best way. Palmistry helps us to see what may
lie in the future so we can take appropriate steps to avoid any negative
outcomes. This is the great benefit of palmistry - to enable us to take charge
of our future and to mould it to how we want it to be.
So how can I avoid the
bad events indicated in my
palm lines?
By knowing that a problem can be
expected in a certain area of life at a certain point in the future, we can
focus on that area in the present and try to see where trouble may be building
up. We can then take action to rectify the problem long before it has a chance
to occur.
Can the ages at which events
are to take place be taken as accurate?
In a standard reading, timelines
given for events in the various areas of life are estimations, with a margin
of about 1 to 2 years on either side of the stated age. It takes a lot of time
to cross-reference the different lines to arrive at the exact age of every
event, and it may not be possible to do this during a standard reading.
Can palmistry tell me if I will
win the lottery? Or if I'll become rich?
Well, it can tell you if you
might be receiving money that you did not have to earn or work for, or in
other words, what may be called lucky money.
However, this can come in many forms, such as actually winning the lottery, or
receiving an inheritance, or perhaps receiving funds from someone as a gift or
to start a business with. It can also tell you about your financial situation
throughout your life, and whether most of your wealth
will be earned money or
otherwise gained.
Can my hand tell
me what kind of career would be best for me?
The palm can tell if a person is
more scientifically or technically minded, or more artistically or creatively
inclined. It can also tell if the career would be one with heavy
responsibilities or if it is a 'lighter' type of career. It is also possible
to see if a leadership-type or service-oriented career would be more suitable.
It may not be helpful to pinpoint a particular job as that may not be the
right one. There is a wide range of occupations available today, and we should
try to do not only what we are competent at but also what we find fulfilling.
Should I change
my job? When should I make a job change?
Career changes and the course of
the career can be clearly seen in the palm. The way to identify when the
changes take place is to ascertain the corresponding age on the lines read.
Go to Top
Will the new job
be better or worse for me?
The nature of the line after a
career or job change will show whether the change will be a positive one or
not. And if the outcome after the change is not positive, a change in a
person's attitude or outlook, or perhaps a re-look at the career direction,
may be called for. Usually, a fate line with a patch that is weak or wavering
shows dissatisfaction or low confidence in the career for that period. It will
strengthen or straighten out once resolution and commitment are made in the
career area.
Can palmistry tell me what kind
of illness I will have in the future?
It can tell if and when there
may be a serious illness in the future, and whether it may be a chronic or
sudden illness. As to the nature of the illness, some readers are able to
indicate the general type of illness that may be forthcoming, although this
may not always be accurate.
I feel fine, but my palm lines
say I may have an illness. What do I do?
If the reader can see illness
happening around the time of the reading but you think you are well, it is
possible there may be an underlying condition building up which you are still
unaware of and which may lead to an illness sooner or later. In such cases, if
there are any unusual symptoms or aches, a visit to the doctor would be
helpful, if only for peace of mind. It would also be good to take stock of
your health and rectify any ongoing neglect or abuse of the health.
How do I deal with negative
energies and stress as shown in my palm?
Usually, hands with a lot of
stress and negativity showing up in them belong to people with low self
esteem. They are confused or fearful or crave the approval of others. Such
people need to learn to respect themselves more, and they will then find that
others will begin to respect them for who they are, and not for who they are
expected to be. Yoga and meditation are two good methods to remove negative
energies from our personal auras and to calm ourselves, so that positive
energies can fill us and work for our well-being and
happiness.
I have a short life line. Does
that mean I will have a short life?
Length of life is not so clearly
shown in this way. The life line mainly represents the general physical
condition and quality of life. There are other lines, one
of which is the Fate Line, that need to be checked for outlook,
well-being, state of health and illnesses, so as to get a complete picture of
the life. Even if a serious illness is indicated at some point, there are
still ways to prevent it actually happening. See next question.
Can palmistry tell how long a
person will live?
No. There may be indications of
a serious illness or severe dissipation of the life force, so those will be
the danger points to watch out for. The will still comes into play. If nothing
is actively done, then, sadly, death may be a possibility, but only a
possibility and definitely not a certainty. What is important is to take
active steps to deal with the negative effects of a danger period. For
example, taking better care of the health, or avoiding taking unnecessary
risks. There are many cases of terminally ill people who had been given only
months or even weeks to live, but who, by dint of their willpower, initiated
lifestyle changes and managed to turn back from the brink of death.

Can palmistry
tell me when I will get married?
It is possible to check if there
will be a long-term, serious or major relationship
coming up in the future. In some cases, there is no marriage but a
living-together situation which feels like marriage. In other cases, there is
a marriage but the relationship is a fragile one, or a long-distance one, or
the couple feels like they are still singles.
Can I know if my marriage or
relationship will be a happy one?
It is also
possible to see whether the marriage or a major
relationship, once it is initiated, will be a happy one or not, and also to
see indications of what the outcome of the relationship will likely be, one
way or another. Having said that, bear in mind that relationship and marriage
lines change relatively easily and any potential problems can be overcome with
some effort at taking appropriate steps.
Can I know about
my family from my palm lines?
Individual family members are
not well represented in our hands. Only superficial information can be gleaned
from a person's palm lines about family members. Lines showing close ties or
coming from the family area may indicate pressure or support from the
parents and the family
in general. It is best to read the individual family
member's hands.
Would I be able
to know about my children from my palm lines?
As stated in the previous
question, only brief information can be read and it is best to read the actual
child's hand, especially if they are adults. There is only
minimal information shown about the prospects for
having children, as well as for the future
outlook of one's children.
Is it all right to have my child's
hand read?
Children's palm lines are not
fully developed, as their characters are still evolving, and it is not really
necessary to do readings for them before they are 16
years old. Bear in mind that one's life story does not
unfold, and therefore does not show clearly in the palm lines, until one
becomes a full-fledged adult.
Do you conduct
any lessons or courses on palmistry?
Currently, there are no courses
on palmistry offered. However, there are plans to organise a comprehensive
palmistry course, which will be announced in the future.
Can you recommend some good
books on palmistry?
Although
Cheiro did not write much on the
subject, what he left behind is as close to traditional palmistry as one can
get today. His books provide a solid grounding in the basics of palm reading.
William Benham wrote a 'bible' of hand reading after conducting his own
extensive, detailed research. There are also other excellent authors of
palmistry, and one can gain much by reading them. Recommended books are listed
in the
Resources page.
Any good websites on palmistry?
Good palmistry websites to check
